After our discussion today in class, i was curious what the president's facebook looks like. Well, as it turns out, he has 18,417,231 likes, and on any given post there are thousands of likes and comments. i can't imagine. he also likes his wife, michelle obama's page- i think it's a sign of a happy marriage.
it seemed that the facebook page was over all not so political. I think the best part of the page was the comment under one of the official white house pictures of the president reading: "YOU ARE MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT IN THE WORLD. I WOSSH YOU GOOD APPORTUNITY DUE TO SERVE WORLD" (so proud of the american education...)
Another entertaining part of his page is where in a video that re-capped what the president did last week, it has a clip of him talking to Marc Zuckerberg- the creator of facebook- on facebook! so cool!
Facebook is a great way for the president to connect to the people, and he can present the issues that he wants the greater american public- not just those who are interested in politics- to be aware of.
Interesting. I'm sure we'll discuss this more later on as we talk about presidential campaigns and new media.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you comment on the fact that the page has no real political substance, while the White House page has useful information and useful links. It's interesting how Facebook can be used for the actual dissemination of information, or for fun for people to like and see the social side of the President.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you- it is important for the American public to see the president as a real person and not just a political figure. I see it as a parallel to fire side chats, where the president could explain issues in familiar terms. Here too, the president can communicate in a way that the American public can relate to.
ReplyDeleteIn addition I think FB and Twitter serve as a way for the President and any public figure to expand their following. I am sure alot of youth and informed voters/ citizens have come across the Presidents facebook and spent a few minutes learning about him through his profile page.. It's interesting that these forms of networking are considered to be a positive form of outreach to the population.
